Imaginary Millions: A Year of Sharing The Wealth

I normally leave the personal takes to Rob but this past year (and a half) with Imaginary Millions has been such a special one of growth, change and inspiration I just had to speak on it. Personally, most of this year has been spent trying to figure out my relationship with space. How to feel comfortable with occupying it. Where I make sense being. And perhaps most importantly, how to share it fairly. Imaginary Millions has helped immensely with this without me even necessarily realising.

Brands and collectives spend a lot of time profiting from providing space and ‘safe spaces’ for people to come and feel like the safest version of one aspect of themselves. I’ve seen IM grow into a community that opens up space for everyone to actually have the space to be what ever version of themselves they’d like to be that night. The space expands to accommodate and doesn’t ask questions. I suppose that’s what I’m taking with me into 2020. The knowledge of how to expand as I see fit, wherever I find myself, and just not question it.

As anyone will tell you with growth comes growing pains and we’ve had our fair share of unexpected knocks. Every single night we’ve put on breeds new learnings, new feelings, new paths and it wasn’t until our last night at Libreria that Rob posed the question ‘what happens when it’s all good?!’. I didn’t really have an answer for him - but in that moment I was just very proud. I don’t suspect that we’ll have a night where everything is entirely smooth sailing but we’ve had some biiig highlights this year. Our tour, taking The Room to Manchester, Amsterdam, Birmingham and more. The artists on our label all releasing new music - Marena, UGLY and Unexpected Guests. Our collaborations with Lyrix Organix, School Ground Sounds and now Steam Down…

The most exciting part of all of this is that we’re only really just getting started. We’re taking our time and we’re taking things as they come. I have no idea what i’d say about any of this in December 2020 but for now I’ll ask as always, ‘what’s possible from here?’. Stay tuned.
